I don't know if they ever played Cumberland Blues at the CCCC, but this is one terrific show. Brent had no microphone for reasons unknown to me, so all vocals are by J&B only. Phil announces his intentions early on, bursting bombs beneath JG's Bertha solo, but really takes charge after drums. I still hold 3-9-1981 as my all-time favorite show, but only by a hair over this one. This is for sure the finest home stretch I ever saw - from the Spanish Jam through Sugar Magnolia, Phil drops more bombs than you can count, and everybody is just tight and rocking away. The Dew is mighty and gorgeous - check out Jerry's growling vocals - and is followed by my favorite Sugar Magnolia ever. I'll be spinning this one all day, and you should too.
